The Best Turkey Burger for this 4th of July

Staying healthy during these fun outdoor holidays is always very difficult. Honestly, I’m with you when it comes to just enjoying family and everything that comes with it. However, we don’t want to undo all of our hard work. So, I looked into lots of recipes that kept the bun (because come on! It’s not a burger without the bun), also a recipe that didn’t force me into a specialty store looking for ingredients I hadn’t worked with before. I finally came across LaaLoosh Ranch Turkey Burger (because I’m not a chef nor will pretend to be) and her recipe is simple, quick and much healthier than a beef burger. Also, you can fix your burger with avocado, greens, tomatoes, onions, so, you aren’t really missing out on a traditional beef burger (note, no cheese allowed, we have to comprise somewhere). Ranch Turkey Burger Recipe – 267 kcal

Ingredients

1 lb lean ground turkey breast

1 egg

1 packet of ranch dip mix

2 green onions (chopped)

2 tbsp fresh parsley (chopped)

3 cloves garlic (minced)

4 whole wheat burger buns

Instructions

In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Form into 4 patties. Spray a frying pan with cooking spray. Cook the patties until done. Serve on hamburger buns or wrap in iceberg lettuce for a carbohydrate free hamburger recipe version.

Vodka Watermelon Cooler (Vodka optional)

Staying healthy is always important but also knowing how to enjoy the few moments in life that we spend with family and a refreshing drink won’t undo ALL of our hard work. I was looking for a refreshing drink that could be just as delicious without alcohol, along, with the requirements above (simple, quick and no specialty ingredients). I’ve been following Jennifer Meyering (food blogger) for some time and had to share! This is the perfect drink for a hot summer day! Vodka or no vodka everyone can Enjoy! Ingredients

8 cups fresh watermelon cubed

2 Tbsp lime juice

2 Tbsp honey

1 cup water

1 cup watermelon vodka

*For layering and garnish (optional):

sour apple pucker

fresh mint leaves

Instructions

In a blender, add watermelon, lime juice, honey, and water and blend until fully pureed.

Pour through fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and seeds. Add vodka and stir to combine.

Pour over ice and garnish with extra watermelon slices and mint leaves, if desired, and serve immediately.

For layering:

Fill glass with ice and pour sour apple pucker until glass is 1/4 - 1/3 full.

Slowly pour watermelon mixture over pucker and mixture will float on top.

Serve immediately with extra watermelon slices and mint leaves, if desired.
